Your New Birth Doula

I am a DONA Birth Doula

Angela Campano, CD(DONA) DONA Certified Birth Doula

Growing up in Miami, Florida, being a DONA Certified Birth Doula was the furthest thing from my mind.  What was a Doula anyways?  People went to a hospital and had a baby, done.  After my first experience of birth, I knew in my heart that birth did not have to be that way.  The more I researched, the more I believe I was denied my choice of birth.  Oh yes, I had an amazing birth plan and told the doctor I wanted a natural childbirth.  I expected to be fully supported by everyone around me.  Once I got to the hospital, the nurse did not even present me the opportunity to use a tub nor did she read my birth plan.  This nurse, could not wait to get me on the epidural so she could have more time for other things, or could that have been the way she was taught.  I became a birth doula to help laboring women use their own instincts, voice their wants and needs and give them the knowledge with supported facts.  Only in the early 20th century, did  women begin to use medical obstetric anesthesia.  What did the women before that use? On the other hand, present day medical science is also making leaps to lessen the use of damaging medical drugs to assist with labor pain relief.  Supportive Birth Doulas will be there for your choices.  A Loving Doula will be there to pamper you through this most important time.  A Caring Doula will be there to help relieve your partner when they are tired or stressed in the journey of Your New Birth!  I, Your Future Birth Doula will find excitement in fulfilling your choice.

Why a Birth Doula?

 According to   https://evidencebasedbirth.com/the-evidence-for-doulas/
Numerous clinical studies have found that a doula’s presence during labor

  • tends to result in shorter labors with fewer complications
  • reduces negative feelings about one’s childbirth experience
  • reduces the need for pitocin (a labor-inducing drug), forceps or vacuum extraction and cesareans
  • reduces the mother’s request for pain medication and/or epidurals

Research shows parents who receive support can:

  • Feel more secure and cared for
  • Are more successful in adapting to new family dynamics
  • Have greater success with breastfeeding
  • Have greater self-confidence
  • Have less postpartum depression
  • Have lower incidence of abuse

I am a birth doula who is trained, certified and experienced;  providing continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before and during labor.  I will provide emotional and practical support during the first hours of the postpartum period. I will share in your emotions and step back while you enjoy those precious moments.  I will tidy up and quietly, with warm wishes, excuse myself to let your new family enjoy Your New Birth!

Why Chose a Birth Doula?

Women in the 21st century need more than ever a chance for personal strength, natural approaches and a return to instinct.  With, long distance extended families, broken homes, feelings of abandonment, etc. our bodies are screaming for natural remedies and support.  A healthy pregnancy should be treated as a gift, not an illness.  Give yourself the opportunity to be treated with the joy of life.  You deserve it.  I am glad that some doctors are shifting ever so slightly to more natural approaches and giving laboring mothers more of a voice.  Natural products, instincts, diet and positive energy are becoming more and more understood as a route to dealing with disease and pain.  You have a voice and I am here to listen, nurture and respect that voice.  If you live in Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, Sarasota, or the surrounding areas, I would like to be part of your supportive birth team. I am excited for the direction of your future birth plans.  I offer Birth Doula Services and Childbirth Education classes. I will be thrilled to share in Your New Birth.  Let’s Talk Soon.
